IPC Exhibition

Well done to children in Years 3 and 4 for presenting so professionally their learning on the human body from our current IPC topic, 'How Humans Work.'

Thank you for your much valued support of the exhibition.

Mathematics and 4 - digit number games

Spin the dice!
In Mathematics, children having being focusing on Place Value, specifically knowing the value of each digit in a 4-digit number. Here they are enjoying making 4-digit numbers by rolling dice and then recording the number in different forms.

Dragon Instructions

Talking to support writing
In English this week, the children have been working towards writing a set of instructions on how to catch a dragon. To support their writing, they were set the challenge of performing actions to almost every word in a given set of instructions as this aids the internalisation of the structure of a text. Here are some of the children performing the text!

Brilliant Bodies

Our IPC topic, 'How Humans Work' received a turbo-rocket boost this week when all of the children in Year 4 took part in 'Brilliant Bodies' workshops delivered by Abbie from Love Science. The children looked at the importance of hygiene and the 'germ detectives' soon found a host of germs all over the children and their surroundings which had spread incredibly quickly.  They thought about the human defence of getting rid of germs and to illustrate this made some snot to take home!  The day also included looking at human and animal skeletons as well as the digestive and circulatory systems.  The highlight for some children was dissecting a real heart so they could look more closely at the different parts, relating this back to their prior learning.

Here are some photographs from the day. Enjoy!

Roald Dahl Day

We had a lovely, fun day celebrating Roald Dahl day. It was great to see such a wide range of Dahl characters among children in Year 4. Well done.

How Humans Work

It would perhaps be difficult to find a more fascinating topic for primary-age children than the human body and hence we have chosen this as our first IPC topic. Our Entry Point for this unit, entitled 'How Humans Work,' was a fun introduction into how our bodies work. Children in Years 3 and 4 started to think about their hearts and whether their heart rate changes after exercise. They enjoyed taking on the role of nurses and doctors and using stethoscopes to listen to their friends' heart beat before and after exercise. They also watched first aid videos about how to deal with  minor injuries.
The photos show the children's joy in learning and their enthusiasm to learn more.
