House Quiz congratulations

Well done to Cleveland House for winning Prep's annual general knowledge quiz. A particular well done to Harry, Pierre and Ben who represented their houses in the competition.

Our gingerbread classroom

We have been having fun decorating gingerbread trees for our Year 4 gingerbread-themed classroom.

If you are on Facebook, please do 'like' the photo. The class with the most 'likes' wins a prize!

Planning and designing a Tidy Your bedroom Machine

This week, the children have been finding out about explanation texts and their specific features. We read an explanation for a Snoozatron machine which helps anyone who has trouble sleeping and also a Time Traveller machine which enables time travel to other periods of time. The children are now at the stage of planning a Tidy your Bedroom machine. Children planned this in groups and in order to support this, some children drew giant models of their machine and others built models from Lego. On Monday, the children will be writing their explanations. I'm looking forward to reading their explanations of how their machines work!

Children in Need Day

Thank you to all of the children and parents for supporting Children in Need day today. It was a real treat to be able to wear pyjamas, onesies or non school uniform. We then had a welly throwing competition and a guess the teacher from a baby photo.

Lots of fun was had and lots of money raised. Here's Miss Fenny demonstrating how to throw the welly.

Diwali Crafts

The children in Year 3 and 4 have just started their new IPC topic, Bright Sparks!

For their entry point they have been thinking about Diwali, the festival of light, and the traditions surrounding this celebration.

For their entry point, the children have had a go at designing their own rangoli patterns and making lanterns.

It was a creative, sticky start to the half term but it has set us up for another great IPC unit of work in which the children will be considering electricity, it's uses and dangers.

Visit to Hartlepool Mosque

On Thursday, the children were warmly welcomed to Hartlepool Mosque. Mr Atkinson explained to them about some aspects of Islam which we have been finding out about in class. This included about Muhammad's life and why he is important to Muslims, about the Qur'an and the Five Pillars of Islam. The children heard a call to prayer in Arabic. Then, the children were taken on a tour of the Mosque. Finally, we were treated to juice and biscuits. The children behaved beautifully and really showed their excellent manners and respectful attitudes.

Have a good half term break

We finished lessons today with a lovely treat from Miss Fenny in the form of designing and then making a very scary pumpkin decoration!

Tasty Technology Task

The children in Year 3 and 4 have completed their technology task in IPC this afternoon by making some lovely healthy salad pots.

We have talked about the importance of healthy diets and the idea of tasting a rainbow when choosing foods.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed creating their own rainbow of salad.

First Aid Training

Children in Years 3 and 4 took part in a hands-on first aid training course today. Mr Palmer explained to the children how to deal with minor injuries like cuts, burns and feinting. The children then practised bandaging each other's arms , had a go at putting a partner in the recovery position and even got to try out some CPR.
A huge thank you to Mr Palmer for delivering the session.

Paddington's mishaps

This week, the children have been writing their own adventure stories based on the Paddington Bear books. Thank you to Esther for bringing her Paddington Bear into school. Paddington has had lots of mishaps all over the school - the dining room, the photocopying room, the Year 4 classroom and even in the changing rooms. His misadventures have helped the children to imagine what could happen to their bear in their own adventure story.

Today, the children listened to Paddington bear music, ate a custard cream and wrote their adventure stories. Do look out for their stories in the next School newsletter.

Adventure stories

This week, the children have been enjoying listening to and reading a range of adventure stories. We are now focusing on the adventures of Paddington bear and the children loved watching video clips of his adventures. In order to support the children in developing ideas for their own adventure stories, they then practised and performed puppet shows of Paddington's adventures. What a lovely afternoon!

IPC Exhibition

Well done to children in Years 3 and 4 for presenting so professionally their learning on the human body from our current IPC topic, 'How Humans Work.'

Thank you for your much valued support of the exhibition.
